Note:
A person commits an offense if, with intent to deceive, he knowingly makes a false statement that is material in a criminal investigation and makes the statement to a peace officer conducting the investigation. An offense under this section is a class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $2000 or 180 days in jail, or both such fine and jail. Texas Penal Code 27.08
