Hartley County Texas was established in 1891. We are located Northwest of Amarillo, Texas along US Hwy 385. Part of Hartley County was included in the great XIT Ranch. Channing Texas was the headquarters for the ranch until it was sold. Hartley County is approximately 45 miles by 30 miles in area, over 1300 square miles.
We have three cities; Dalhart, Hartley, and Channing. Channing Texas is our county seat.
There are three major highways in our county; US Hwy 385, US Hwy 87, and US Hwy 54.
The Hartley County Sheriff’s Office has 7 full-time sworn officers; Sheriff Chanze Fowler, Chief Deputy Steven Yeager, Deputy Penny Loudder, Deputy Eric Byrne, k-9 Deputy Reese Smith, and Deputy Dwayne Dennis.
The Sheriff’s Office sits in Channing, Texas next to the Court House. We have an annex office in Dalhart, Texas (1401 Walnut)
